An End to the War in Afghanistan
President Biden has recently announced that he intends to bring the War in Afghanistan to an end. In 2015, my poem Snow Over Kabul, was published at The 5-2: Poems on Crime. An excerpt of the poem is below. Read the entire poem, and access a recorded reading, at this link.
SNOW OVER KABUL: THE BAGRAM AIRBASE BOMBING
That old white man,
he told the talk show host
he was celebrating as he flew
in the doomsday machinehigh over the Atlantic Ocean
on his way to Kabul from New York City.Even from that altitude
he thought of building on
a war, built for decades
on shifting sands.

all that pretending
to draw her in
she’s right
and for what?
to lay naked
behind her?
to reach out
and grab handfuls
of her flesh
as she arched back
to grab handfuls
of my hair?
and for what?
words on this page?
an impenetrable silence
an extinction

Aja will create and publish a chapbook of poetry to bring awareness to the atrocities caused by the death penalty in Pennsylvania. The book will be a compilation of her poetry and writings, writings by family members of murder victims and current or exonerated death row prisoners from and/or living in the Philadelphia area. After assisting a loved one who was in prison on exaggerated charges, Aja was moved to want to help those that had no one advocating for them. Her intention in creating this compilation is to make a powerful artistic statement that could potentially encourage those that read it to consider whether the death penalty truly serves the needs of victims or the community at large. The book will be distributed free of charge.
